Burlington has a tradition of helping local, regional, provincial and national sports and volunteer organizations host events in our city. Grants, bid processing assistance, participant welcome packages, accommodation bookings, sport-friendly restaurants, entertainment and activity options, pre and post event tours, maps and visitor guides are examples of how Tourism Burlington helps groups enhance their events. We can also put you in direct contact with venue and facility managers, local media and community partners who are committed to ensuring that your event runs smoothly and participants enjoy their stay and play in Burlington.
Burlington is home for numerous signature sporting events, including the Chilly Half Marathon, Bobbie Burns Run, Ringette Association of Burlington Bur Bear Tournament, Burlington Barracudas Tim Horton Hockey Tournament, Burlington Gymnastics Club Spring Cup, Burlington Eagles Ron Wilkins Hockey Tournament and the Golden Horseshoe Hockey Tournament, to name a few. These annual events are organized by local sports organizations offering recreational, instructional and competitive programs. Tourism Burlington in partnership with the Burlington Hotel Association has developed a funding program to support not-for-profit organizations hosting events in our city that require overnight accommodation. Up to $5,000 per event, per year is available for new or enhanced events that increase the number of guestrooms at one or more of the Burlington Hotel Association member hotels. Event Funding Program
Tourism Burlington is a member of The Canadian Sport Tourism Association (CSTA). CSTA recently launched STEAM (sport tourism economic assessment model) to measure the economic impact of sporting events in communities. Tourism Burlington has adopted this model for use by all sport organizations in Burlington and incorporated the model into its event funding program. If your organization has received event funding and/or are interested in piloting this model for your event, please refer to the attached document. STEAM Workbook
