Olympian - Swimming

Colin Russell is a freestyle swimmer who holds numerous records (World, 7 Canadian, 4 Canadian Interuniversity Sport and 16 Ontario).  He represented Canada at the Olympic Games in 2008 (placing 5th, 6th, and 14th) and 2012.  As a member of Team Canada he participated in 2005, 2009, and 2011 World Championships (Silver in 2005),  2006 Commonwealth Games (Bronze), 2006 and 2010 Pan Pacific Games (3 Silver in 2006),  2003 Pan American Games (3 Bronze), and was Canadian Trials National Champion 4 years in a row (2008-2011).  Colin attended Indiana University where he earned Swimmer and Rookie of the Year in 2004.  He also attended University of Toronto where he was Athlete of the Year in 2009 & 2010 and won Canadian Interuniversity Sport Athlete of the Year in 2009.  Colin was Burlington’s Athlete of the Year in 2009 and was inducted into the Burlington Sports Hall of Fame in 2016. He was a Queen’s Diamond Jubilee recipient in 2012.  He is a member of the Mayor of Burlington’s Millennial Advisory Committee, on the board of Directors of the Burlington Sport Alliance and a Coach of the Dolphins Swim Club.
