Unique to #BurlON
The mom & pop operation that owns Son of Peach Pizzeria also has a bakery specializing in hand-crafted doughnuts called Sunshine Donuts. Everything is handmade and crafted in-house daily. Delicious flavours range from Burlington Cream, Sprinkle, and Strawberry Glazed to more decadent flavours such as Dulce de Leche, Cheery Cheesecake, Earl Grey & Blueberry Basil. They are located downtown behind the Art Gallery of Burlington. Watch their social media channels for daily flavours and beware, once they sell out, that’s it – you will have to wait for tomorrow.
Just like Mom Makes
Burlington has many delectable bakeries that whip up made-from-scratch creations for you to take home to family and friends.
If you stop by Mrs. B’s Gifthouse, you will find both Mrs. & Mr. B too! This family-run shop is home to some of the best house-made biscotti around. For the past 25 years, Angelo and Diane have been baking artisan biscotti in-store and now you can also pick up homemade Nonna’s spaghetti sauce. The biscotti is made fresh in assorted flavours. The owners are proud Burlingtonians who enjoy chatting with their customers about their products and our beautiful city.
Nothing Bundt Cakes was started by two friends who made cakes for their friends and family in their southern U.S. home. As demand grew, so did their business and Nothing Bundt Cakes was born. In 2016, they opened their first Canadian location and the owners are the son & daughter-in-law of founder Debbie Shwetz. Owners, T-Jay and Morgen adhere to the same philosophy his mother did 20 years ago. They make their mouth-watering bundt cakes with fresh eggs, real butter and cream cheese to ensure that the quality continues today.
Sweet Success
If you are in the north of the city be sure to stop into the Springridge Farm bakery where you will find an amazing selection of treats made from scratch including a wide variety of jams and preserves. Springridge prides itself on using fresh local ingredients and its tarts, pies and treats reflect that – look for berries in the summer and pumpkin and apple in the fall. While you are there, take a few minutes to visit the gift loft and farm, you won’t be disappointed.
Saving Thyme is another success story of a home business that has evolved to a busy brick-and-mortar location. Owners, Alex and Phil Kinsman take pride in their product and it’s evident by the attention to detail and commitment to locally sourced ingredients found in their offerings. The cafe is tiny and bustling but if you don’t have time to sit down take some tasty treats to go.
