This privacy policy outlines the information which Tourism Burlington will collect from you on our website and how Tourism Burlington will use that information.  We reserve the right to change this Privacy Policy from time to time by updating this posting.  Please check periodically for changes.  Your continued use of this site after posting changes to this Privacy Policy will mean you accept those changes.

Our Policy
When you visit the Tourism Burlington website you do so anonymously and are not required to tell us who you are. Tourism Burlington may request personal information from you in order to provide requested specialized services, but such information is handled as it would be on an in-person visit.  When personal information is requested it is our commitment to provide notice outlining:

  • How the information will be used
  • Who to contact if you have any questions about these practices

Access is limited to only those employees who need access in order to perform their assigned duties. Employees are regularly instructed in their responsibilities in protecting personal information and privacy.
All information voluntarily sent to the Tourism Burlington websites, by email, feedback form or other means, becomes the property of Tourism Burlington.

Tourism Burlington collects data to operate effectively and provide better quality experiences. The voluntary information you provide to us is used to improve our customer service standards and/or provide the requested information. Cloud service providers such as Microsoft store the identifiers and information you input into our website and emails.
Whether the Personal Data is Transferred Outside of the European Economic Area Information is transferred to Canada.
Retention Period For services on an annual cycle, information is stored for one year and subject to renewal once per year
For other services, we retain this information for a reasonable time after you end your relationship with us.

Server Cookie Technology
The only personal information that is captured through the website is that which you volunteer. However, as with most sites, certain non-personal information is recorded by the standard operation of our servers (“Cookie” technology). Such information is used to provide an enhanced online experience, and may include:

  • The date and time you accessed the site.
  • The Internet address of the Web site from which you enter our site and where you go after you leave our site.

We offer free, electronic newsletters, updates and e-mail reminders as a service to our visitors, based on your voluntary subscription. If you wish to change or delete your personal data, or if you have any questions regarding our use of your personal data, please contact the Executive Director who is responsible for data protection. We will respond to your request as soon as we can.

Users participating in Tourism Burlington contests may be required to submit varying degrees of personal information, depending upon the nature of the particular contest. The specific information to be collected and how it will be used will be disclosed in the general contest rules and regulations and/or in the referring contest page or newsletter. The names, addresses and photographs or likenesses of contest winners may be reproduced on the site or in other advertising materials.

From time to time, Tourism Burlington will conduct online surveys for internal purposes or for third parties, to gather general information about users and/or their views. Participation in these surveys is voluntary; no information will be collected except that which is knowingly supplied by the user. Identifying Personal Information will not be shared.

Tourism Burlington provides links to other sites to help visitors in trip planning and to provide industry partners with resources. The content on many of these sites is maintained by parties other than Tourism Burlington. This privacy statement is limited to the Tourism Burlington Web sites. Tourism Burlington assumes no responsibility for the websites that are linked to, hosted by or otherwise electronically connected to the Tourism Burlington websites or web server, nor do we endorse the materials presented on sites which are not owned and operated by Tourism Burlington.

Your Rights
You have the right to request, access, rectify, erase, and restrict how we process your personal data.  These rights include the ability to review the personal data we have in our information and communications systems concerning you, to make any corrections to that personal data to be informed of who that data may have been shared with, to request that we erase all of our personal data, and to restrict how we process your personal data. We are required to respond to any of your requests to exercise these above rights as soon as possible and will contact you to inform you of any delay.

Any images, graphics, multimedia, or content on our websites is copyrighted by Tourism Burlington.  The site contains names, logos, trademarks, service marks and other intellectual property which are the property of Tourism Burlington and may not be used for any purpose without the express written consent of Tourism Burlington. The terms and conditions outlined throughout this Privacy Policy, are interpreted in accordance with and governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario (without applying the province’s conflict-of-law principles).  If any provision of this agreement is unlawful, void or unenforceable, it will not affect the validity and enforceability of any remaining provisions.
