Live Outdoor Music
July 12, 2019
There is nothing like hearing music played live… you see the artist setting up and interacting with the band and crowd, you get to know them more through the comments between songs and you hear their emotion and passion coming through the lyrics and notes. Some of my most vivid memories have been attending live outdoor music concerts and having that spine tingling moment when they captivate the crowd.
During the Sound of Music Festival I had a few of those moments listening to some amazing artists. Even though the festival is over for another year, visitors and residents can continue to enjoy wonderful live music throughout the summer at various venues. We encourage you to check the websites below for up to date information and to ensure outdoor concerts are happening if weather is inclement.
Royal Botanical Gardens Music Nights
Imagine enjoying red hot jazz, cool blues or country and roots music surrounded by beautiful gardens in picturesque Hendrie Park. What a fabulous way to enjoy a warm summer evening at the RBG Garden Music Nights. I am looking forward to catching a few of the performers, having BBQ dinner on site and wandering the beautiful gardens in between sets. Garden admission is required. Music Nights is held under a tent so it is offered rain or shine!
- Red Hot Jazz & Cool Blues Wednesdays – July 3- August 28 6:30 – 9 pm
- Country & Roots Tuesdays – July 2 – August 20 6:30 – 9 pm
Concerts in the Park
Bring your visiting friends and family to the free music concerts offered by the City throughout the summer. You can bring a blanket or lawn chair and enjoy an evening of music under the open sky at the Central Park Bandshell. Concerts are at 7:30 -9 pm every Wednesday & Sunday until Aug. 18. A great option if you have family members participating in other activities at Central Park! If there is inclement weather, concerts will move inside the Music Centre if possible.
Songs & Sunsets Music Series
New this July on Saturdays at 7:30 pm is the Songs & Sunsets FREE music series at Central Park Bandshell featuring area artists in a lovely park setting. Dates are July 13 & 20.
Party on Plains
Another new addition to live outdoor music is Party on Plains hosted by Aldershot BIA. Held on the 4th Thursday of the month from 6-9pm activities include live music, food vendors and family fun. Located at 100 Plains Rd. West.
Summer Park Jam
At Bronte Creek Provincial Park on Thursday nights they are hosting Park Jam an amateur music evening from 6-8 pm. Park admission fees apply.
Downtown Jazz Festival
On Saturday August 10 and Sunday August 11 outside on the plaza the Burlington Performing Arts Centre is the place to be for FREE jazz performances during the Downtown Jazz Festival. Performances are at 4pm and 6pm. In the event or rain, performances will be moved insider the venue. A cash bar is available on site. Sponsored by the Burlington Downtown Business Association.
Dinner and Entertainment
There are a number of venues which feature music while you enjoy a great meal or refreshments. The artists are often local talent who are thrilled to play to a hometown crowd. Some locations also have patios where you can hear the band but also enjoy being out under the stars. This is a perfect date night option (hint, hint!) or celebrate a birthday or other event. Check out the tourism website for other sites with Live Music or the specific websites below to find out if you need to make reservations, if there is a cover charge etc.
- Sunday Night Jazz Nights – Lowville Bistro (cover charge)
- Sunday Jazz 11 am to 3 pm with Michael Maguire plus live entertainment every Friday and Saturday nights Pepperwoods Bistro
